Flooded (sample)
“I’ll have you know that house has been standing since 1879. It has weathered worse storms; no damned hurricane is going to bring it down. And for your information mold can be found in almost every house in America!” He’s laughing now as he tosses what is left of her home in the back of his truck.
“Get in, you’re making a scene,” he laughed as he walked over and lifted the box from her feet,...

Random musings...and procrastinating on pages.
I’ve been in the desert a month and tonight is the start of the Palm Springs Film Festival. I was told a few of the screenings are at my old high school. It makes me feel good to hear that so many people are going to the same place that I did…a small back story.
I was a nerdy art kid that kept to myself and spent the bulk of my time sitting outside the art room. When the door opened I...

a small update
I’ve posted a small portion of “Only Superstition” on createspace. I will also be posting the same sample to Scribd. Please take a moment to visit and read. As always share your thoughts…I promise we will have more surprises in the next week.

it's true...we're writing about zombies.
I have to come out and say that I was inspired from this season of “The Walking Dead.” Sophia is missing and there is a search party that has gone on for several episodes. I have to say that with the way my mind works and how I’m not a fan of dragging out a good story. I like an arc that gets tied up nice and quick.
I tweeted something along the lines that maybe Sophia got bored...

hello, los angeles.
After a month in Los Angeles, I finished work on a third story I started last year for Nanowrimo. It was the third book following Cut and Staked. It’s got a working title, Cured, edits will start pretty quickly. I anticipate it being ready for Spring 2012.
It feels darker than the other two books and for a time I really hated that it had gone that direction. We’re back in New Orleans...

"you're a writer? wow...that's cool."
I moved my laptop back to the office because I was spending most of my day in bed writing but not really writing. I ended up on skype talking to anyone/everyone that was available. And we all know twitter is like oxygen to me these days.
Once again I’m back to working on my ghost story, Only Superstition. I needed to step away from it for awhile (I feel like it has been on/off for the last...

Ladies and Gentlemen...
I’d like to introduce you to Staked.
Cara Stone is part of an underground world of vampire slayers. Follow her story from the depths of the metro to the nightlife of Los Angeles. Staked is the follow up to the fast-paced vampire novel, Cut.
Some quick acknowledgments: First and foremost my tumblr family - you guys are truly inspiring, everyone that enjoyed Cut and was there from the...

"what's the status on staked?"
I get this question quite a bit these days.
Edits are complete and the story is flowing better. I added a few more passages that tie up loose ends and Staked has the same word count as Cut. I’m going out on a limb to say that I feel really good about this story. It is darker than the first book but it reflects how I was feeling last year.
I have one small hurdle - my mac is slowly dying....

Excerpt from Staked
“Tell me what you have heard,” I said when we settled onto a small bench surrounded by boxwoods. We were far from the house and anyone trying to listen in on the conversation. “The one that made me always told me to steer clear of Octavius and his brother Atticus. He said they were dangerous to our kind. I had never met either of them and so I took this warning lightly. You have to understand my...

I’ve been getting quite a few questions about what the status is for Only Superstition…I can tell you that a few major edits have occurred. For awhile I was feeling like the story had lost its path and we needed to back away from it.
Real life has invaded but I think we’re back on track to finishing it. Until then, take a moment to check out what the always amazing Matt Davis...

A mini preview of what is coming up this Spring. I know waiting is a drag and I’ve always hated the word, “soon.” But I promise the sequel to Cut is well worth the wait.

A short update.
I took the last few weeks off from edits to take care of non-book work. I do have copies of Cut that will be sent out randomly for those that have “liked” the Facebook page. www.facebook.com/daniellellanesauthor
I’m also submitting Staked for the Amazon Breakthrough Award. I am going to have to fight to make it happen this time around. I’ve been really...

thanksgiving & writing...
Trying to accomplish Nanowrimo and Thanksgiving is a challenge. I have been having a minor battle with trying to write lately. I usually will devote 5 hours to writing each day. Because essentially it is my job. (A job that I love).
I feel though that it is too clunky to be in the Cut series. I will not call it a loss and shelve it - I think it could work with a few edits here and there. It still...
#nanowrimo
A quick update. We are 5 days into #nanowrimo. I’ve managed to write nearly 17k words. I forgot how much fun this was last year. The whole challenge last year was with myself. Could I still write like I had in previous years? The honest truth was I completed it in 3 weeks. It was amazing.
Since then I completed a follow up to Cut.
This is actually a third book in the Cut series - I told...

the week we went back to work.
I could only stare at the walls so much and attempt to build a story before figuring out I needed an outlet. I have gone back to work part time to start. I also anticipate a move back to Los Angeles before Thanksgiving. I will have plenty to be thankful for this year.
I’ve also been building a new outline for #nanowrimo that is a 3rd book with Rent & Octavius. I kept getting the...

submissions & other news...
I recently sent Staked off into the world. This is my first time finding a publisher so I’m hoping they will be kind. I chose a publisher in the UK over one here in the states (not because I don’t love US publishers but I felt the UK might need some fresh blood).
I’m also doing outlines for#nanowrimo! I have something of an idea how I’m going to approach it. More...

It has been a busy few weeks here. I finally completed Staked and am in the process of editing chapters. The first time through read funny but now I think we’re solidly happy with how it reads. I know you guys will enjoy it.
This time around I will be submitting it to a small publishing house in hopes they can assist as the first time around, self publishing was difficult in navigating. I...

National Novel Writing Month
We’re a few months early asking this but I’ve noticed on twitter a few people already talking about starting their outlines. I know that the follow up to Cut is nearly complete but I do have an idea to use in November.
For those that participated - will you be doing it this year?

we took a few weeks off...
After my vacation I wasn’t sure which way the sequel to Cut would go. I had an idea and was running with it. And just like Cut I felt like I had lost my way with the story I was telling.
I actually find that I get really inspired while I’m on the metro underground. When I was finishing up with Cut last year I was really bothered by how everyone that rides the metro was really cool...

we have taken a week off from our day job. I’m thrilled that I can now devout more time to Only Superstition. I actually creeped myself out a few nights ago. There are moments when you get in a zone writing and everything around you just becomes white noise (if you have ever written, you know what I mean).
There is a weird moment when it is just you and your thoughts and the words take on a...

I’ve been swamped with my day job and have had to put off working on the new story. I know - this is huge step back from what I had promised myself and my small following. I still give myself a word count and am back to making notes on my blackberry for how I want the new story to play out.
I have been also fleshing out titles for the book. I kept coming back to one song in particular and...

updates!
So while Cut is finally out and available exclusively through Amazon. I’ve started writing again.
I’m currently at work on a ghost story that has been near and dear to my heart for a very long time. Once again it is set in New Orleans (I toyed around with the idea of moving locations but once again my heart is and always will be there). I’ve changed the storyline somewhat since...

Thank you.
